On 20 March 2013 Her Majesty the Queen appointed Mr Andrew Miller, Solicitor Advocate as a floating sheriff for Grampian, Highland and Islands based at Dingwall.

On 20 March 2013 Her Majesty the Queen appointed Mr Paul Vincent Crozier, Solicitor Advocate as a resident sheriff of Glasgow and Strathkelvin based at Glasgow and Ms Susan Craig, Solicitor Advocate as a floating sheriff of Lothian and Borders based at Livingston. Online Application

19 March 2013

Following feedback from applicants and to make the application process more user friendly, the Board has commissioned an online application form for future appointment rounds. It is a secure and straightforward way to apply for judicial appointments. Applicants are required to register and set up a username and password the first time they apply online for a judicial vacancy. Thereafter applicants will have the option to retrieve their previous application form, and update it if they wish, to apply for future judicial vacancies. The Board looks forward to piloting the application during its next exercise.

Next Sheriff Appointment Round

19 March 2013

The rate at which the Board has been asked to make shrieval recommendations from the current pool has been slower than expected. Following discussions with the Scottish Government and the Judicial Office for Scotland, the Board has decided to extend the life of the current pool to the 31^st December 2013. Any new pool will take effect from 1^st January 2014. The Board therefore provisionally plans to launch an exercise to form a new pool in the summer of 2013. You may wish to subscribe to the Board’s website to receive updates on the work of the Board and to be alerted when a competition launches.

First Minister Alex Salmond nominated Mr Alastair G W Carmichael, Solicitor Advocate, for appointment on the basis of a report by the independent Judicial Appointments Board.

Her Majesty the Queen, on the recommendation of First Minister Alex Salmond has appointed Morag Wise QC and Iain Armstrong QC as Senators of the College of Justice.

Appointment of a new sheriff

14 January 2013

Her Majesty the Queen has appointed Mr Jamie Gilchrist, QC as a floating sheriff of Grampian, Highland and Islands. He will be based at Inverness Sheriff Court.

Her Majesty the Queen, on the recommendation of the First Minister, has appointed the Rt Hon Lord Carloway QC as Lord Justice Clerk. Lord Carloway replaces the Rt Hon Lord Gill who was recently appointed as the new Lord President.
