Appointment of new Sheriff based at Lerwick and Kirkwall

Her Majesty the Queen has appointed Mr Philip Mann, solicitor, as sheriff of Grampian, Highlands and Islands based at Kirkwall and Lerwick.
First Minister Alex Salmond nominated Mr Mann for appointment, which was made on 16 April, on the basis of a report by the independent Judicial Appointments Board.
Mr Mann will take up his role on 2 July.

President of the Supreme Court

An Ad hoc selection commission has been established under section 27 and schedule 8 of the Constitutional Reform Act 2005 (the Act) to select a candidate to be recommended for appointment as President of the Supreme Court. The vacancy will be created by the retirement of Lord Phillips on 30 September 2012.
New Sheriff Appointments

Two new sheriffs have been appointed by Her Majesty the Queen.
The appointments, on 4 February, will see Mr Derek Jack Hamilton, Solicitor, as sheriff at Greenock Sheriff Court and Mr Peter Paterson, Solicitor, as an all Scotland floating sheriff based at Arbroath.
